An abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that removes excess tissue and fat from the abdomen. The tummy tuck in Portland tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall in addition to removing excess tissue and fat, improving the appearance of the tummy.
With a special focus on body contouring, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Workman frequently performs tummy tucks for his Vancouver, Portland and Tri-Cities patients.
A tummy tuck in Portland can significantly improve the appearance of your midsection. It does this by removing stretched skin and tissue, while repairing muscles that are stretched as a result of body weight changes or pregnancy.
Dr. Workman can perform a tummy tuck:
- if you desire a long-lasting correction to your protruding abdomen,
- as part of a “mommy makeover,” and
- if you cannot flatten your tummy with diet and exercise.
In most cases, abdominoplasty surgery is performed after a woman is finished with child bearing. The stomach muscles often stretch during pregnancy and remain lax. This may result in a “pot belly” appearance, in spite of endless crunches and sit-ups. Sewing the muscles back to their original location can dramatically flatten the abdominal profile. For long-lasting results, it is best to wait until no pregnancies are planned.
Your Tummy Tuck Procedure In Vancouver
A tummy tuck surgery is performed under generaly anesthesia, so you will be asleep during the operation. The surgery begins with an incision on your abdomen. This incision, which is beneath the belly button, extends from hip to hip. This incision is normally placed below the underwear line, so a scar should not be visible in most clothing and swimsuits. Evidence of the incision will fade with time, but a scar will remain.
Through this incision, Dr. Workman has access to the muscles of the abdomen. He will tighten these muscles with sutures, helping you achieve have a firm, flat belly after your tummy tuck. Once the muscles are tightened, the excess tissue and fat will be removed. Liposuction may be used to remove fat, in surrounding areas. Once excess tissue and fat are removed, the incisions will be closed.
