BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation also referred to as breast implant or breast enlargement surgery is a common surgical procedure designed to increase the size of one or both breasts, or reshape and rejuvenate sagging breasts. The procedure is sometimes performed in conjunction with a breast lift, though this is not always necessary. The surgery usually lasts about one hour. During this time you will be put to sleep and Dr. Workman will make an incision along your bust line, where the breast implants are then inserted. Stitches are used to close the incision; while they will leave scars, Dr. Workman will try to make them as inconspicuous as possible.

SALINE VS. SILICONE IMPLANTS

There are two distinct options for implants when considering breast augmentation. No matter your preference, Dr. Workman will meet with you to discuss the benefits of both before your procedure.

Saline breast implants are saline-filled silicone shells. They are currently the most commonly used implant in America. The shells are filled with saline via a small tube after they have been inserted in the breast. This means your incision will be smaller and the implant can be adjusted to fit your body.

Silicone implants were approved by the FDA in 2005. More people worldwide choose silicone over saline implants. Silicone implants are popular for their more natural feel and lower chance of both visible and palpable rippling. However, they are more expensive than saline.

BREAST LIFT

Breast lift procedures, known as mastopexy, are used in conjunction with and sometimes in place of breast augmentation surgery. Sometimes you don’t really need augmentation but a higher, perkier position. A breast lift might be a better option for you if you are experiencing drooping breasts. The procedure restores the youthful shape and positioning of your breasts without adding any volume to the breast size.

BREAST REDUCTION

For some women, large or heavy breasts can cause back and neck pain, skin irritation, and posture problems. Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammoplasty, can be done to change the size, weight, firmness, and shape of the breasts. Making the breasts smaller, firmer, lighter and more evenly proportioned usually relieves the physical discomfort and pain caused by large breasts.
