Body Contouring Procedures In Portland and Vancouver

Many people are unhappy with the way their body looks, whether it’s due their natural shape or the result of processes like aging and pregnancy. Sometimes, no matter how well you eat or how much you exercise, you just can’t get your body to look the way you want. Luckily, Dr. Michael Workman and his team offer a variety of body contouring procedures aimed at shaping your body to help you achieve your desired look.

Abdominoplasty, often referred to as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure where excess fat and tissue is removed from the abdomen. As a longtime Portland cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Workman has extensive experience with the tummy tuck procedure, and excels at tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall in addition to removing excess tissue and fat, improving the appearance of the tummy.

The surgery is performed while you are asleep under general anesthesia. An incision is made beneath the belly button and extends from hip to hip. Through this incision, Dr. Workman tightens the muscles with sutures, helping you achieve a firm, flat belly after your tummy tuck. Once the muscles are tightened, the excess tissue and fat can be removed via liposuction before the incision is closed.

Liposuction, or Suction Assisted Lipectomy (SAL), is the most commonly performed plastic surgery in America. If you’re a healthy person at a stable body weight, you can consider liposuction to help remove localized areas of fat. The procedure can improve the contours and proportions of your body, but it cannot help you achieve substantial weight loss or significantly reduce cellulite.

Liposuction is often combined with other body contouring procedures, such as the tummy tuck, thigh lift or breast reduction.

After childbirth, some mothers may find that the youthful figure they took for granted has changed. When diet and exercise have no further effect, considering plastic surgery might be an option. Liposuction combined with a tummy tuck is sometimes referred to as a Mommy Makeover. These two procedures approach the problem from different angles and complement each other to provide a very satisfactory, slimmed-down result.

A body lift is a surgery performed to correct excess, loose and sagging skin and irregular contours of the:

  • Abdominal area
  • Groin
  • Thighs
  • Upper arms

Surgical body lifting improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin. Excess, sagging fat and skin are removed to treat conditions caused by poor tissue elasticity. In addition, a body lift can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, commonly known as cellulite. In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a combination of liposuction and body lift techniques may be recommended.
