Isn’t it about the time you gave yourself a makeover and improve your fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, and skin irregularities?

An Erbium Laser treatment is a resurfacing procedure that can reduce facial wrinkles, take care of acne scars or blemishes, and provide smoother and more youthful-looking skin.

What is Erbium Laser?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found erbium laser skin resurfacing to be safe for the treatment of fine lines and moderate wrinkles. An erbium laser can be ablative or non-ablative, meaning it can either remove the top layer of your skin (ablative) or heat up the underlying skin tissue to help produce new collagen (non-ablative). It can help remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on your face, hands, chest, or neck with minimal burning of the surrounding tissue as well as address and resolve acne scars, moles, pigmentation issues, and sun damage.

An erbium laser treatment removes the top layers of your skin to allow your skin cells within the hair follicles to enhance your skin. It can help develop new collagen that results in new skin covering and giving the surface of your skin a smoother and more uniform texture. Collagen helps smooth and tighten your skin.

Erbium laser resurfacing is an excellent option for many people, especially for those with darker skin tones. It is performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthetic or mild sedative meaning you will be awake. You may feel drowsy and experience numbness at the treatment area. Recovery is usually faster and has fewer side effects than other lasers, including carbon dioxide (CO2).

Here are the top 10 skin conditions that can benefit from an erbium laser treatment:

Recovery from Erbium Laser Treatment

Everyone recovers differently and depends on the location of the treatment. Ablative lasers can take up to three weeks to heal properly. You can expect some tenderness in your treated area for a few days and for your skin to be sensitive and red or pink for several weeks. Any redness can be expected to disappear within six months.

After a few days, your skin will become dry and peel off. There may be some itchiness or stinging feeling consequently. You can apply an ice pack for pain relief, especially in the first 48 hours. Vancouver Erbium laster treatment patients will need to start cleaning their treated area a few times each day, starting the day after the procedure. To prevent scabs from forming, you should apply an ointment. It is important to keep your skin moisturized while it heals, which can take up to three weeks. You may start using glycolic acid or Retin A after about six weeks.

During your recovery, you can keep swelling down by modifying certain activities, especially strenuous exercises and activities, and keeping your head elevated when sleeping at night. Be sure to wear a “broad-spectrum” sunscreen formulated for use on the face, with a sun protection factor of 50 or higher.
