Breast Lift Surgeon in Vancouver, Portland & Tri Cities

If you have been considering a breast augmentation procedure, you may want to look to a breast lift instead. Sometimes you don’t really need augmentation, just a higher, perkier position. A breast lift might be a better option for you if you are experiencing drooping breasts.

As the years pass, women’s breasts sag for several reasons:

  • The continual pull of gravity
  • Hereditary factors
  • Breastfeeding babies
  • Pregnancy, which enlarges the breasts even if you don’t subsequently breast feed
  • Fluctuations in your weight, especially large changes.

When the breasts are larger and heavier, they sag more readily and lose their youthful shape and positioning. A breast lift (known as a mastopexy) restores that shape and positioning without adding any volume to the breast size. It can also reduce enlarged areolas. Your body profile will be more uplifted and younger-looking.

A breast lift consultation is the first step

A breast lift, being fairly major surgery, is not something to rush into. If you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss the possibility, please call or email us. Not everyone is a good candidate. Dr. Workman carefully screens his patients to ensure that he only operates on qualified candidates who will recover properly from a breast lift procedure.

Questions that you may be asked during the your breast lift consultation:

  • Why do you want to have a breast lift?
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • What medications are you taking and why?
  • Do you smoke?
  • Have you had any previous surgeries?
  • Do you have a family history of breast cancer?
  • When was your last mammogram?

Be sure to answer all questions truthfully, for your own sake. Dr. Workman will evaluate your general health, examine your breasts, take their exact dimensions, and discuss your options. If you decide to go ahead with the breast lift in Portland, he will explain your risks and likely outcome.

You may need to have further medical evaluation or testing done, adjustments to your medications, another mammogram, and changes in drugs or supplements you take. Dr. Workman will give you instructions for self-care afterward, and will arrange follow-up appointments.

  • The nipple and areola will be repositioned to help match the lifted position
  • Enlarged areolas may be reduced by removal of excess skin

The recovery period

Dr. Workman will provide clear in-depth instructions of this process. There will be bruising and swelling at first, but it will subside. You will need to protect your incision sites from undesired motion, impact or abrasion. You will be given directions on how to care for the dressings, when to shower, etc. Be sure to go to your follow-up visits so Dr. Workman can monitor your recovery. All surgeries bring certain risks, such as excess bleeding, infection, blood clots, and excess fluid retention. Through proper care, these risks can usually be avoided.

Implants may need to be replaced:

It’s important to know that breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. You should plan for an annual examination by your plastic surgeon to see if the implants need to be replaced.
