Abdominoplasty
Serving Vancouver and the Portland, Oregon area
Abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen in addition to tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall.
In most cases, abdominoplasty surgery is performed when a woman is finished with child bearing. The stomach muscles often stretch during pregnancy and remain lax. This may result in a "pot belly" appearance, in spite of endless crunches and sit-ups. Sewing the muscles back to their original location can dramatically flatten the abdominal profile.
To remove the skin and fat, a long incision, normally below the underwear line, is made. Evidence of the incision will fade with time, but a scar will remain.
It is important to limit activity for 10 days to aid healing. Most abdominoplasty patients can return to work in 10 -14 days , however heavy lifting should be avoided for 3 months.
If your primary problem is limited to excess fat, you may be a candidate for liposuction instead.
